Award winning Pie In The Sky® becomes first Kosher Certified Bakery

in all of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay

Pie In The Sky™ has been working for the last month with Yossi Elkayam and Saul Groman of The JewWish and Rabbi Zev Schwarz from Chicago on Kosher Certification. As of December 1, 2011 all of Pie In The Sky’s™ products, with the exception of their Chicken Pies and Chicken Empanadas, are certified Kosher.  Pie In The Sky™ is the first Kosher Certified Bakery in Puerto Vallarta, Banderas Bay, and beyond.

Pie In The Sky™ will of coarse continue the tradition of making the best baked goods in the area continuing with all of the recipes that have made them famous.   There have been several additions to their award winning menu, including the famous Challah Bread every Friday, various vegan and parve recipes, as well as Hanukkah Sufganiyot (Israeli-style doughnuts).  More traditional Kosher and Holiday recipes will also be added in the future.

On December 8, The JewWish sponsored the inauguration of the only Kosher kitchen in the area, and Pie In The Sky™, which co-sponsored the event, showcased their newly certified Kosher bakery by presenting their Kosher wedding cakes, art cakes, petit fours, special event cakes, chocolate Besos, tarts and more, to the public.

Now people of the Jewish faith have a bakery where they can get a delicious variety of Kosher desserts and coffee. Also, Jewish people getting married in the Puerto Vallarta area can have the event catered by The JewWish and obtain their wedding cakes from the newly Kosher certified bakery.

Being Kosher is a complicated historical Jewish custom based on spiritual and religious beliefs as well as biblical respect.  It is the practice of keeping meat and dairy separate in households by dedicating different pots, utensils, plates and tableware for each.  In order to be Kosher certified, Pie In The Sky™ is following strict Kosher guidelines in their Kitchen in Bucerias and Puerto Vallarta and is prepared to make all these services available to the Kosher Gourmet Community.

1998 Pie In The Sky™ was bought by Susan Drexler and Philip J. Price, a couple from the California’s San Francisco Bay Area. Together with their son Scott Miller, Executive Chef of Market Hall Catering and Cactus Tacqueria in Oakland and Berkeley, California, they introduced additional gourmet items while maintaining the quality and integrity of the original Pie in the Sky™ product line.  Today a dedicated staff of artisan bakers, under the direction of Manuela Guerrero Esparza now turns out fresh baked Kosher goodies every day. Manuela has 19 years  of experience as the bakery’s executive chef.

Pie in the Sky™ has special menus for the most memorable occasions.  They create anything from cake art and wedding cakes to pies and cookies, special occasion cakes like Mother’s Day or Thanksgiving Day to their unforgettable, world famous, decadent Besos! They also create gift baskets and party platters with the best service possible.
